Fiesta in San Antonio begins this year on April 10th. Fiesta is an annual Spring celebration that  started in 1891 when a group of citizens decided to honor the heroes of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto with a Battle of Flowers.
The first parade had horse-drawn carriages, bicycles decorated with fresh flowers and floats carrying children dressed as flowers. The participants pelted each other with blossoms. It is the largest celebration in San Antonio and includes many parades(River , Flambeau, & Battle of Flowers) festivals(Oyster Bake & King Williams Fair), NIOSA, and a city wide holiday for Battle of Flowers Parade.

To decorate homes, people add Fiesta wreathes to their front door with lots of ribbon, flowers, in bright colors.

What makes for a fabulous seasonal wreath?

1.Quality Ingredients- start with a good base. A wreath with sturdy branches/arms that will hold it’s form when you shape it. Choose colorful focal points to set the theme for your wreath, Wired ribbon in several widths, & Florals.

2. Decorate in a triangle

3. Decorate in layers and fill in spaces to your triangle as you go.

4. Step back & enjoy!

Gather your ingredients-Flowers in bright colors, ribbon half bows, and ribbon streamers.

Ingredients

Think of your wreath as a triangle and place focal points and bow at each corner. Then fill in with flowers and half bows!

I love to re-purpose, re-use and recycle my holiday decorations. My Christmas doorway this year was a Red and white color story, complete with Santa faces and candy canes. After Christmas I removed the Santa faces and Candy canes (they were wired on) and stored them away with Christmas. I left everything on on my green pine garland that is attached to permanent screws around my doorway. Red and white ribbon, a white sparkle garland and all the assortment of red, white and red and white patterned balls.

Valentines is a favorite holiday celebration for me. Probably because I Love, love, love RED, and my birthday is February 12th. I love to throw a party for myself and decorate for valentines day! My next favorite color (or color combo ) is Black and white! I have collected serving platters in black and white to use for many celebrations! So it was only natural for me to add Black and white in with valentines day!

I collected my new wooden conversation hearts from Adams and Company and my stash of Black and white polka dot ribbon ( Love polka dots too!) and transformed my Christmas garland into my Valentine Doorway! Love is in the air!

My Christmas Pillow is the perfect size for a backdrop to my Target Heart pillow

I turned the pillow around to the blank backside.

Add polka dot ribbon and tie a shoe string bow, finished on top of the pillow

Tip: Ribbon is a quick  fix to a tired, out of season or plain pillow. It can easily dress up or add a holiday touch!

Does your door make a great 1st impression for the holidays? Show Me Decorating shows you how in a few simple steps!

Determine your theme or color story

Pick your base: wreath, teardrop, ball wreath, grapevine etc. Keep in mind the size of your door, porch or entrance way for appropriate proportion.

Shape and Fluff your teardrop before decorating

Next add in a Show Me Decorating key ingredient, a floral spray. Use the wired greenery of the teardrop to twist over the floral spray to hold on

3 Gold glittered floral sprays were wired on (no glue needed)

The 2nd floral spray is added the same way, wiring on with the greenery branches.

Another Show Me Decorating key ingredient is used, Ribbon! Cuts lengths of each ribbon (approx.1yd) and place a wire in about the middle leaving one side a little longer.

Tie a coordinating bow. get the Show Me Decorating app, to learn to tie a bow.

Cooler Temperatures, Warm colors, and pumpkins! It’s time for Fall! You can decorate now and leave up until Christmas. Whoo Hoo more bang for your buck.

Scarecrows, Pumpkins & Burlees Oh, My!

Are you wild about Mesh? Or nervous about how to use it? We love it when it’s used in moderation and doesn’t overwhelm. Mixing orange glitter mesh and burlap mesh adds a great fall texture and color to this doorway. A quality 9′ faux green garland is a great base to layer on your fall decorations. (reuse with a Christmas theme) Attach screws into brick mortar or wood framing and leave in so you are always ready to create a grand entranceway!

Work mesh into garland with small poufs and attach by twisting the garland’s branches over like a twist tie.Half Bows are great in a garland

Mixing ribbon colors, patterns and textures creates interest.

Give Thanks for Fall

Burlap mesh in green and natural is added next, overlapping and switching back and forth. Mesh curls are created by cutting shorter lengths of mesh and rolling up. Burlees and metal pumpkins are used  as focal points, followed by half bows. Wire in shatterproof balls (in coordinating colors and varying sizes and textures) Next add the floral stems of glitter leaves and pumpkin picks.

The Lisa Frost Halloween banner was the inspiration for this fun and colorful Halloween doorway!

Glowing orange Faux garlands will be the base for this Fun Candy Halloween garland!

Designer tip: always shape faux greenery and florals, handle each branch, pulling out and shaping for a full look. Quality wired garland is a must to attach and wire your focal and filler items, ribbon, balls, florals etc.

Permanent screws have been installed in mortar around the doorway. Landscape wiring is attached and then garland is wired on by twisting the wire over and back.

8″ Shatterproof balls are wired on 1st, colors coordinate with the inspiration banner. Matt and shiny finish are selected for interest.

All the balls are placed on first, most of these were used on the fall doorway! (could be used for Christmas if the color scheme or theme allows)

Supplies are gathered on a blanket to protect them from the ground.

Oversized candy corn and glitter florals will help complete the look. Always think in size and proportion to your doorway, and what can be seen from the street.

This was the second year to work with this client. We helped her to welcome all guests to her new home in the Christmas holidays. She wanted clean lines with touches of the unexpected and funky fun looks.

Christmas Grand Entrance

The front was a beautiful entry way styled with frosty teardrops, and covered by a fancy balcony.

The grand living area has a natural and frosty look. The garland featured frosty icicle branches and beautiful pinecones.

There are many great red accents in the house, so it was easy to add these red pencil trees to the foyer and shirts of red mesh completed the look.

Elegant traditional with a touch of whimsy will please any age. These home owners recently became grandparents and wanted a child pleasing welcome for their grand front entrance. Lots of classic green and gold were used to compliment the buck and traditional style of the home. Whimsical signs with lots of white were added to the garland wreath and door way for a lively touch.

A  Christmas Store takes lots of time and planning, but especially inspiration! We go to market in Atlanta and Dallas in January every year right after the holiday season. Believe me -it takes alot to inspire us especially after a busy year!
