Spotlight and Showcase each SPORT to show appreciation to Athletes, Coaches, and parents for the time and hard work!

 

Start with Trophies. I had friends and neighbors donate trophies for all sports

Then spray paint with school colors.

For Centerpieces, I used wrapping paper in black and white check as a table runner with red glittered scrap book paper. Pops of white and glitter help focus the table decoration.

Soda bottles as a base for jerseys and stuffed with newspaper to give the jerseys shape then added tissue paper as FLUFF!

Steps to Fill Jerseys

The Coaches were kind enough to loan us the jerseys to use as decoration and gave us a chance to Showcase each sport on a table top! The stuffed jerseys also provided height to the table tops. ( The only items I purchased were wrapping paper, scrapbook paper, and spray paint.) The soda bottles were donated as were the trophies. We repurposed the WC flags from a previous year.

Quick Idea-Have trophies lying around collecting dust but you hate to part with them-Pop off name plates and frame as a memento and hang on a wall or give to your favorite athlete.

An entry table is the perfect spot to showcase your seasonal decorating. Keep it simple and easy! Coordinate color story (orange black and white) and theme (Halloween)from the front door décor!

Show Me Decorating Tip: Pick out a focal area to decorate seasonally, entry table, sofa table, top of the piano, island or bar in the kitchen, mantle, buffet, or dining table. Store your decorations in clear tubs, marked with the holiday! This makes it easy to pull out the Holiday decorations and fill with your everyday decor! Cute Little Monsters frame shows of the grandkids at Halloween.

Start with a glitter grass twister garland and Glitter ball garland.

Layer the two garlands together twisting wires to combine.

Add in a group of three! Frame shows off the grandkids, cute signs and Metal Pumpkin Boo!

Add in the finishing touch of Ribbon!

Wired ribbon adds the finishing touch, the icing on the cake the… well just add the ribbon!

For a quick and easy Christmas centerpiece, feature a special Dept. 56 Village piece in a glass jar. Kathy chose the Christmas Shop in honor of our store Miss Cayce’s Christmas Store in Midland.

Here is the easy step by step

Choose a jar large enough to hold your Dept. 56 village building and add handfuls of faux snow.

The Christmas Shop honors our partnership for the last 29 years!

Place the building in the jar, settling into the snow.

Top it off with the glass lid.

The Christmas centerpiece is completed by placing on a silver tray and a set of Christmas ornament candle sticks.

Sometimes we ignore the décor and go with traditional colors for the Christmas decorating and sometimes we embrace the décor and treat it as part of the whole look.

In the front room we chose a white tree to showcase the bright ornaments. It was a fun focal point for the room.

We created a whimsical centerpiece for the table featuring a Mark Roberts fairy. The table looks so yummy it hardly needs food! Well, a cookie or two never hurts!

The top hat showcases her beautiful collection of Radko ornaments. We added floral, ribbon, and snowflakes to take her tree to a whole other level.

Show Me Christmas Inspirations from Market 2013

A  Christmas Store takes lots of time and planning, but especially inspiration! We go to market in Atlanta and Dallas in January every year right after the holiday season. Believe me -it takes alot to inspire us especially after a busy year! After spending several days looking at what’s new and hot at market, we get together with our team and plan the theme’s for Miss Cayce’s Christmas Store and Show Me Decorating.  Here’s a quick look at what inspired us and soon we’ll unveil Miss Cayce’s spin on the looks from market.

A what? A SNOWMAN ARCH TREE- oh my! Wouldn’t this be amazing for an entrance or doorway. Frosty and friends also translates to a tree or garland with flocked foliage. We saw lots of snowmen!

Show Me Sells Seashells by the Seashore….or should I say decorates with seashells…..

Summertime brings on lazy days, boat outings on the lake, travel, walks on the beach, family reunions and weddings!

I have two ideas involving seashells, flip flops, wreaths and the all important ingredient….. Ribbon

We recently set sail on the Carnival cruise ship the Magic! What an incredible trip with our daughter Rebecca and her best friend of all times to celebrate their 15th birthday’s!

We love the sand, the sea and the beautiful blue of the Caribbean water!

While on our trip I collected a few seashells, rocks and coral that had washed up on the shore. Since this is a favorite of mine I have a glass jar in my bathroom filled from many of our trips. However it was full and while shopping at Hobby Lobby I spotted 50% off glass jars with lids and snagged one! It is perfect and as you can see and it still has plenty of room for more shells so I can take more trips!

Now I love decor that can do double duty, and since our son Will recently proposed and Susan accepted I have wedding planning on my mind.

ah ha moment!

I could dress up this glass jar for a warm, inviting, summertime engagement celebration!

The theme is established: seaside

I want to add a table runner to extend the centerpiece down the middle of my table, there are several options: purchase a table runner to coordinate, use a length of material or mesh. I think I will opt for the mesh because it is light and breezy!

Just add a bow to coordinate and create a great 1st impression for your guest! (gift to the engaged couple to decorate their new home!)and personalize with wedding date!

Show Me Bunko Party, 4th of July Style

Mom, ready to host her Patriotic Bunko party!

Our mom has always been a great hostess. We grew up with wedding showers, bridesmaid luncheons, graduation parties and a host of celebrations large and small.

She always allowed us to participate and by doing so, we all learned to entertain and love to!

She has a group of friends that take turn hosting their Bunko group. We are so proud that mom hosted this month because she had not done so since she broke her arm, had surgery and survived therapy!

The 1st step to make your entertaining easier is to decide a theme, and because it fell the 1st week of July, a patriotic theme was chosen (plus she had a collection of red, white and blue goodies) So mom gathered up her red, white and blue table cloths, flag squares, patriotic pails (to fill with candy), star centerpiece explosions, and small red, white and blue candles. Card tables were set up for bunko play and her dining table was set to serve buffet style.

Coordinating Patriotic paper goods mean less clean up!

Tip: Investing in washable table cloths allows for multi-purpose use from party to party.

Place table-cloth on table and add collection of patriotic goodies.

Abe Lincoln stands tall on antique metal lunch box, beaded necklaces (used to mark the bunko) add some whimsy!

Metal picnic basket elevates the red tulips with a red, white and blue floral garland tucked in.

Next was deciding the menu and a picnic theme came to mind, with fried chicken, potato salad, watermelon and Blueberry Ice Box Pie.

Easy as Pie! for the 4th of July!

Tip: To enjoy a party, plan food that is pre made: potato salad, broccoli slaw salad kit and fried chicken. (no hot kitchen or last-minute prepping) Serve food in platters and bowls that coordinate with your theme!

Platters, bowls and serving pieces were gathered up to coordinate with the table-cloth and marked with post it notes of food they were to hold. White bowls, red platters and blue specked tin wear were all put to use.

The centerpiece was created from a drum lunch box (mom’s from a high school fundraiser), a metal picnic basket (which belonged to the original Miss Cayce’s), a basket of faux red tulips and ivy (they resides year round on the kitchen table) and an Abraham Lincoln wooden figurine from my collection.

A metal cross is displayed on the corner of the picnic basket, a nod to the sacrifice of so many for our freedoms!

Tip: When creating a centerpiece, consider shopping your home, bookcases, shelves, cupboards and closets for items that relate to the theme. Use different textures, materials and heights for interest.

Now have fun in displaying the food. Fruit is perfect for summer and what says picnic more that a watermelon. Be creative and scoop out all the melon leaving a bowl you can carve to serve it in.

Filled serving bowls and trays become part of the centerpiece, when food is served buffet style.

Good food displayed is great food and a fun celebration!

All Star Centerpiece DIY

The field is set, let the games begin!

How do you create an All-Star centerpiece (on a budget)?

1.Gather up all the small toy balls, football, basketball, tennis,

golf (and golf tee’s). With my grandsons there are plenty!

Small Nerf football fits nicely at the bottom, golf balls, tennis balls and toy balls are colorful and carry out our sports theme.

2. locate a big glass jar or candle jar as I did

Wrap a length of ribbon around neck of jar and tie once

3.Fill glass jar or candle jar with balls and fill in with golf tee’s

4. Put lid on candle jar, secure a bow on and place small basketball on candle holder. If you use a big glass jar or vase, add water and fresh-cut flowers! add ribbon around neck of glass.

Tie a bow with wired ribbon and secure with floral wire, lay on tie of ribbon on neck of jar and tie over bow. Add raffia if desired.

Now you are ready to set the field (table)

We choose to keep our serving trays more neutral and white with pops of red. This allowed the sports themed food to be the true all star!

Mommy has been sitting on the bench but rumor has it she will be called in the game to quarterback soon!

The field is set and we are ready to play!

This week has been a great reminder of what makes America strong- that in the times of destruction we can come together and help those in need. It reminds us that we can pray for those affected by the storms and we can give to those who can offer practical help.

If you would like to help, Samaritan’s Purse http://www.samaritanspurse.org and the Red Cross http://www.redcross.org are wonderful organizations that provide on the ground help to those directly hurt by the storms.

Lets celebrate freedom!
