Show Me How 2: Celebrate a Family Easter

The Perfect Family Easter

frontentry

I don’t know about you but when our family gets together we always have a big meal, especially when it’s to celebrate a special holiday like Easter! Here’s my delicious family celebration menu. Our traditional Easter lunch is centered around my famous brisket, a twice baked potato casserole, yummy green bean casserole and Sister Schubert’s Rolls (almost as good as mom’s). I don’t know what the Sister does, but her rolls are just so amazing!

Here’s my famous brisket recipe! The recipe is so simple, people don’t believe me when I share it with them, but take my word for it, it is!

brisketredo

This delicious brisket recipe is just like our Christmas decorating recipes; easy & quick and you can do it!

Spray pan with Pam before placing trimmed brisket, fat side up in the pan. I like to use disposable baking pans for easy cleanup!

Pour  1/4 cup of water and  1/2 bottle of liquid Smoke (my favorite Firago) over brisket, and sprinkle with Wyler’s Beef granules to coat the top. And that’s it! No need to add ANYTHING else, trust me!

Cover brisket with heavy duty aluminum foil (Reynolds) and seal tightly. Place in a pre-heated 250-300 degree oven on middle shelf. Cook for 8-9 hours, depending on your size of brisket.

After cooking, remove brisket from oven being careful not to slosh the liquid. Carefully open foil to release steam and heat, then allow brisket to rest, loosely covered.

brisket3

Next, remove the top layer of fat and discard, place the brisket on a cutting board and use an electric knife for perfect slices! Pour off 1/2 of the liquid and discard. Return sliced brisket back into pan (or fancy serving dish) and top off with your favorite bottled BBQ sauce. Cover with foil until ready to eat. You may want to reheat slightly.

Did you notice my Lisa Frost cutting board?

Show Me Decorating Tip: Plan a make ahead menu for large family gatherings. This brisket recipe is great prepared the day before and cooked overnight. Most vegetable casseroles can be made the day before and refrigerated until ready to heat and serve. Ask family members to bring a salad and desserts!

We finish off with an Easter egg hunt and fun desserts!

We love to celebrate Easter with the eggs, candy, rabbits and new clothes, but the real celebration is life. Life given to us because Christ is Alive!!

Thank you to AKA Design + Life for this beautiful printable!

He is risen!

Simple Valentine

Wow…its already nearing the end of January and to be honest I just finished putting all my Christmas stuff away.  Most years I allow my house to be decoration free for several weeks however, I took Christmas down and put Valentine’s up this year.  My Christmas colors flow very nicely into Valentine’s so the transition was pretty easy this year.

Valentine Garland with Lisa Frost heart.

I just switched my ribbon out, added purple Amaryllis flowers as well as the small pink and multi sequin balls. Another great addition to this garland would be our Adam’s and Company conversation hearts ornaments. My Lisa Frost banner has appeared multiple places through out my house: front door, above my mantle and now attached to my fireplace screen.  Great purchase!adamsandco, conversation hearts, show me decorating, valentines

I do not go all out all over my house for Valentine’s.  I like to add just a touch on a few places. One of my favorite pieces in my home is my custom made hutch by my Grandad.  I showcase my serving pieces, festive glass ware, fiesta dishes and recently I was able to purchase awesome chevron chargers by @cotton colors.

DIY ideas in this photo…

1. Magnetic silk Flowers attached to table runners,

shop for silk flowers in 3 sizes, small, medium and large (Variety in size and color add interest)

next cut the stem off with wire cutters

plug in your GG (Lisa’s nickname for her Glue Gun), and glue positive magnet to flower back

now attach to your table runner with another magnet

2. Jelly Bean Centerpiece

WOW your family and friends with this EASY DIY Centerpiece! Here is what you will need:

1. Tall glass cylinder

2. Branch, spray painted white

3. Internal poster-board cylinder.

I created it by eyeballing the size I would need! I rolled up a piece of poster board and measured the diameter I would need by placing it inside of the glass (that’s what I call “eyeballing”). I noted the space needed for the jelly beans to fill in around it! Marked the size with a pencil. 4. Plugged in my GG…(hot glue gun). Glued the poster board into a cylinder and stuffed the cylinder with florist foam, added the tree branch and stuffed it with newspaper. 5. Set the paper cylinder inside of the glass. 6. Separated the jelly beans by color… 7. Arranged them by color… 8. Layered them inside… 9. Ta-da!!!!

Miss Cayce’s is celebrating 29 years (1984) in business in the Permian basin. because we are a seasonal store and we have lots of women that work for us and they change sometimes from season to season it was hard to keep up with birthdays, you would remember some and celebrate and forget others and have hurt feelings! So years ago we instituted a policy, if your birthday falls during our open season, you are responsible for celebrating and inviting us to the party! We have had catered lunches, complete with cake and party favors, and if you don’t throw your own celebration you cannot be upset if no one knows! Because my birthday is in February, the 12th to be exact, and close to Valentines day (one of my favorites) I throw myself a Valentine/Birthday party and invite my friends and family. This year was especially special because my little sister Jennifer and our Show Me Decorating team, Sal and Lanisa (from San Antonio) surprised me!

Valentine’s day is just around the corner and the team at Show Me Decorating has been working on several Valentine decorating ideas!  After wrapping up a successful Christmas season we looked around at the Christmas project we had done and were able to reuse lots of our product for Valentines.  If you’re like me, your house looks really strange after you take down your mantle and door decor.  Typically I wait a few weeks and throw up some Valentines but this year I decided I could simply just rearrange a few things from Christmas and get my Valentines stuff up.  The stores do it why can’t you.  I have included several ideas for your front door….

IMG_4217Simple grapevine oval wreath, love sign, fake flowers and FABULOUS wired ribbon.

IMG_4213

Red, lit tinsel wreath with bow! www.showmedeorating.com

IMG_4214

Add a personalized painted letter….

Or if you’re looking to go over the top add our 3 main ingredients: BALLS, FLORAL and RIBBONIMG_4253

To carry the spirit of Valentines into the house I went with a more whimsical and slightly unconventional look.  I used a turquoise garland… Yes turquoise! This is a great way to go a little funky.

IMG_4177-001

To create a different look from Christmas I swooped the garland over the corner of one side.

IMG_4175

I made half bows with long tails.  I always browse through the dollar sections @target and found this awesome heart-felt garland that I cut and added to my ribbon.

IMG_4182

Next add your variety of balls in color and size.

IMG_4220

Lastly tuck in your florals! I decided on a purple Amaryllis flower and a red glittered Rosemary spray.  I just finish off the entire look I and added my @lisafrost banner.  You could have this look in your home by visiting www.showmedcorating.com

LOVE your decorating! Katy
