Show Me How 2: Add a Smile with Sprinkles

Oreo Cookie Lollipops

Sprinkles and Smiles

Sprinkles and Smiles

Let me “Show You” a quick snack that is a winner with my grandkids. I love to have my grandkids over to make things, either a craft or something fun to eat. On Wednesday nights we go to KSG at Crestview in Midland where they enjoy crafts, bible study, and snacks! The kids take turns bringing the snacks, and this past Wednesday it was their Emma, Ethan, and Noah’s turn.

Of course we cannot just take a pre-packaged snack, the kids want to create something! (I wonder where they get that?) They start pulling out the Sprinkles and here we go!

What you will need:

Candy melts, cookies and sprinkles

Candy melts, cookies and sprinkles

You’ll also need lollipop sticks or craft sticks.

Show me Decorating tip: keep candy melts and sprinkles on hand for a quick and easy food/craft project and everyone is happy!

Set up your supplies and get ready for fun

You can always adjust the color of the candy melts or sprinkles if you have a holiday or special event to celebrate. On this occasion we went with spring colors and Easter cello bags for packaging. There are a lot of great ideas on Pinterest for homemade snacks! Check out Craft-O-Maniac  and Eugenie Kitchen.

We used Oreos (double stuffed) and craft sticks to create cookie lollipops. I thought I had the lollipop sticks but Rebecca had used them in making cake pops! So we improvised with the craft sticks.

Noah (3yrs) loves to do it too!

Noah (3yrs) loves to do it too!

We started by separating the cookies, dipping the stick in the candy melt, placing it on the white filling and putting the cookie back together. Allow the cookie to set before dipping and decorating with sprinkles.

Follow the instructions on the candy melt packaging. Then let the kids dip and decorate! (Be careful the mixture is hot!)

Show Me How to Make a Fiesta Wreath

Fiesta Wreath Ingredients

Fiesta in San Antonio begins this year on April 10th. Fiesta is an annual Spring celebration that  started in 1891 when a group of citizens decided to honor the heroes of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto with a Battle of Flowers.
The first parade had horse-drawn carriages, bicycles decorated with fresh flowers and floats carrying children dressed as flowers. The participants pelted each other with blossoms. It is the largest celebration in San Antonio and includes many parades(River , Flambeau, & Battle of Flowers) festivals(Oyster Bake & King Williams Fair), NIOSA, and a city wide holiday for Battle of Flowers Parade.

To decorate homes, people add Fiesta wreathes to their front door with lots of ribbon, flowers, in bright colors.

Ready to make your own? You can with Show Me Decorating’s easy to follow steps-

Show Me A Lifestyle of Giving Goes Beyond the Christmas Season.

Create and give back, Miss Cayce’s home of Show Me Decorating partnered with Coton Colors and their Attached to a Cause Event!

and here is what happened……kids in the Permian basin benefited!

A Lifestyle of Giving

A Lifestyle of Giving

A Lifestyle of Giving Goes Beyond the Christmas Season.

Christmas is a time of giving and Miss Cayce’s Christmas Store has honored that tradition for over 30 years! Owners & Sisters Becky McCraney and Kathy Harrison are home town girls raised in Midland by parents Clarence & Betty Murray who still live here down the street from Kathy. Becky & Kathy graduated from Lee High school and have raised their families here also. They love the Permian basin and believe in giving back to the community that has helped them grow their business.

It takes only one visit to the seasonal Miss Christmas Store to keep you coming back for more. The sisters and their staff work all year buying, planning and displaying the fabulous products purchased from all over the world and preparing their marketing strategies to include fun-filled events that feature specialty exclusive merchandise with great artist and vendors. But it doesn’t stop there; these events are always partnered with a charity that benefits as well.

Kathy and Becky were thrilled to partner with Coton Colors for their 2nd annual Attached to a Cause, charitable giving program Art with Heart, and Midland’s own Rays of Hope was the perfect fit.

Rays of Hope offers classes for children and teens who have experienced a loss due to death, divorce or other painful transition. Kelsee Jones says “Our goal at Rays of Hope is to provide a safe, neutral place for children and teens to do the work of grief.  Through facilitated peer support groups, we encourage children to use the creative arts as tools of expression.” If you know of a child or teen that needs this, please call (432) 684-5437 for more information.

Having seen the positive impact of artistic expression while volunteering with pediatric patients Coton Color’s designer Laura Johnson created the “Art with Heart” Gallery Attachments for their second annual Attached to a Cause program. A portion of the proceeds from these limited edition attachments and the corresponding Color Me Happy Coloring Book will benefit the art therapy program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Additionally Coton Colors will donate one coloring book for every one sold. Read more…

Miss Cayce’s hosted their own “Art with Heart” event benefiting Midland’s Rays of Hope. During the month of February, Miss Cayce’s asked their fabulous customers and Coton Color fans to donate art supplies for Rays of Hope and in return they received a 20% off coupon. The sisters also offered the opportunity to Buy a Book and Give a Book. For every “Color Me Happy” Coloring Book purchased, Miss Cayce’s donated a book to Rays of Hope.

As a parting gift, Coton Color’s and Miss Cayce’s donated an “Art with Heart” Gallery Attachment and Happy Everything Base to Kelsee Jones at Rays of Hope, to give the children a place to display their works of art for all to see.

“It’s a win, win for everyone” says Becky each year the girls select several of the many worthy organizations from our area to team up with. Sometimes it’s actual % of sales given, a raffle ticket for a chance to win a huge special prize like a completely decorated tree with Christopher Radko ornaments or customers bringing PJ’s for Safe Place and receiving a discount on store purchases.

Amongst the many charities that have benefited from Miss Cayce’s and the communities generosity are High Sky Children’s Ranch, Hospice of Midland, Rays of Hope, The Midland Junior League, Samaritans’ Purse, Christmas Shoe Box, Hunt for Heroes, American Red Cross, Safe Place, Young Life, Girl Scouts Of America, the American Red Cross, March of Dimes, Meals on Wheels, Buckner Children’s and Family services and Casa De Amigos just to name a few!

Our store requires so much of our time and talent that it’s hard for us to serve on boards or lead out in each one of the wonderful organizations available to our community but this way we can give back in these big and small ways.

In 2013 the sisters moved their retail store to a NEW location at 1012 Andrews Hwy (behind Westlake Ace Hardware) growing from 8000 sq ft to over 16,000, allowing them to expand current lines and add new ones. Coton Colors is a manufacturer of colorful, handcrafted pottery, creative giftware and seasonal pieces to live life in style. They are a key supplier in the new location. The Coton Colors line along with new Home décor (rugs, lamps and furniture) is available year round at special events or by appointment, (432)689-7192.

Show Me a St. Patrick’s Day Wreath

St. Patrick Day Decorations

St. Patrick’s Day is an enchanted time – a day to begin transforming winter’s dreams into summer’s magic.  ~Adrienne Cook

Start with a St. Patty’s Day Wreath in lively shades of Green, Gold, White, and Black

St. Patrick's Day Wreath

1. Quality Base Wreath- I repurposed from Halloween. A black wreath can be used for many season’s when topped with the colors of the Seasons. Wreathes come in many colors and a green tinsel wreath would be great for St. Patty’s Day. Shop at http://www.showmedecorating.com/collections/wreath.

2. Next add in focal points. To save, I purchased these focal points from @PartyCity. A Green & gold thin garland with gold 4 leaf clovers,  a Lebrechaun Hat, and a Lucky Horseshoe

3. Black and white tied into a Show Me Bow will top off the wreath, with pig tail bows added in and gold balls for the gold at the end of the rainbow.

4. When you decorate a wreath, think in the shape of a triangle and in 3’s.

Another touch of the season is to decorate a table top. Here I reused the same ingredients just in a different way.

Show Me decorations that “Light Up” the Party

Top off your table top decorating with a festive chandelier! Alta Lynn uses a base of Christmas green pine garland wrapped around the iron chandelier. She added a felt vine with red hearts, and the black and white polka dot ribbon ties it all together.

Show Me Tip: Invest in a great quality green garland and use it as a base for many decorating ideas. Most garlands (unlit) can be cut to the desired length with wire cutters.

Red wire was used to hang Old World red glass hearts and conversation hearts. Cut wire in different lengths and wrap on arms of the chandelier, finish off the other end with a heart and a curl.

Lamps are another great place to decorate for celebrations, parties or seasonally.

The theme of Love is lit up and ready for the couples shower to begin! As you begin planning your next celebration or party consider these 3 tips

Show Me Decorating Tips:

1.Select a theme or color story: Love, Valentines with Red, Pink, Black and White

2.Gather decorations (at home or shopping) to coordinate and compliment the theme and color story: Valentine hearts, ribbon, table cloth, runner, centerpiece (remember the gift, a #CotonColors Happy Everything plate & attachments, is used on this table with fresh flowers in a pitcher added)

3.Set your table days before and designate serving pieces for selections of food to be served

Alta Lynn’s tip:  Enlist a friend and it goes twice as fast!

Show Me a Couples Shower

Show Me a Couples Shower…..Bring a Blender for her, Some tools for him, or pick out a present for the two of them!

How do you decorate and  celebrate a couples shower in February….. with love that is! Considering that the month of Love is February, what better time to host a couples shower when your house is decorated for Valentines!

As proper etiquette would have it, a shower is hosted after a wedding where everyone is not invited to the wedding……so the good friends of the mother and father of the groom hosted a couples shower. What better time than a noon Sandwich, chips and dip bar!

And where do we start? With a theme and color story!

Theme: Couples shower & wedding celebration. Color story: Red, pink and black and white! Hearts and Love!

here is the table setup:
