Fiesta Time in San Antonio!

Follow Me on Pinterest

Reblog from 2011!

It’s Fiesta Time in San Antonio and sisters, Lanisa Cole & Sal Priddy, of our San Antonio team have been busy. You can follow Show Me Decorating’s easy steps to create a festive wreath too!

Sisters Lanisa & Sal

Step One Gather Your Materials

We were between using a grapevine wreath or a green wreath with a magnolia leaf added on. We chose the green wreath because it will be easy to add in our flowers & ribbon.

Which wreath to use?

For a fun festive wreath, choose a selection of flowers. We chose traditional fiesta flowers but had them made out of plastic instead of paper to last longer.

Quick Sidenote : ) If you wanted to do a bright Spring wreath, you could chose Gerber Daisies!

We chose plastic flowers!

Every wreath needs a focal point. We loved this cute Piñata donkey & the ribbon streamers will give the wreath dimension!

The Focal Point & Adding Some Dimension

Bright ribbon adds a real punch to our fiesta wreath! We used the lime green netting as background & the lime green & orange with pom pons for our bows. The skinny ribbon is for streamers!

Bright Colored Ribbon!

Step Two Building Your Wreath!

This is the easiest part of creating a wreath. Once you have chosen your theme (Fiesta) and you have gathered your materials like we did, then you can place everything on the wreath! Here comes the creative part :) Don’t shy away from making your wreath look just like YOU want it. We added in the flowers, the Piñata, and the streamers keeping in mind that we can make different layers with each of these. While we were making the wreath, we decided to make bows to match our theme and place them around the house!

Quick Sidenote : ) Be watching for the Video on how to tie multiple ribboned bows! Also the Show Me Decorating app for iPhone’s & iPad’s includes an entire section on how to tie bows.

Were Done!

It’s Fiesta Time! Happy Decorating! Sal & Lenisa

The fun pink flower spray was leftover from Christmas! After Christmas sales are a great place to find fun things to incorporate in seasonal and everyday decorating. The purpose of a theme and color story is to help you focus when you are looking for supplies for your project and narrow the options! We also love items that can be used for more than one purpose!

The Lisa Frost heart @demdaco(the inspiration) and the fun Sandra Magsamen Sign @livingartfully @walmart, are 2 of the focal points

We wired on the canvas heart and the sign, now to balance the two we will add our bow! Learn how to tie a bow at www.bowapp.showmedecorating.com just $.99! The power of 3! Wired ribbon is best! @reliantribbon

Now the finishing touches, the glitter pink flowers will carry out our color story, red, pink and black and white! A couple of shatterproof red Christmas balls will add a little more red and both are wired on. (by wiring on instead of gluing, all the pieces can be taken off and reused next year in a different way, and it is easier to store)

The wreath is finished off with Funky sparkle pink flowers!

Dressed up lamp for Valentines day!

Love is in the air… at my house! One of my favorite days to decorate for, Valentines. In the entry way I dress up the lamp with a sheer wired ribbon wrapped around the shade and tie on the puffy heart tassel. (last year this heart was hanging from a shelf in the guest room!) I love to use items differently each year. I also arranged my heart printed bowl, cute heart boxes and antique valentines sprinkled in! This create a fun vignette to welcome my guest.

I love antique valentines, I also keep special ones the kids have made, and sprinkle them through out my decorating!

So in keeping with the Show Me Decorating steps :

Step 1.  pick a Theme or Celebration, Valentines day

Step 2. Color story, Red, pink and black

Step 3. Gather items that coordinate and support the theme and color story. Valentines, hearts, ribbon, serving pieces, heart boxes

Hint: I have big clear tubs, marked for the season or celebration, ie: Valentines, Easter/spring, Patriotic/4th of July, Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving and of course Christmas!!!! (lots of tubs for Christmas!) Some of my items do double and triple duty!

Check out our app, www.app.showmedecorating.com just $2.99

Now the Big Chandelier gets dressed!

The before, waiting to be dressed for the party!

I gathered up all my goodies, glitter hearts, glass hearts, big plastic hearts and ribbon

Big red hearts are added, tied with red sheer ribbon, hanging from the middle is a cut out paper glittered heart from @Michael's

Old World Christmas has the cutest conversation hearts, they are so cute hanging from sequined wire(also from Christmas)

What would life be with out Glitter! Thanks @hobbylobby for great selections and prices!

Use sheer red ribbon to tie on glittered hearts to chandelier arms!

Shiny, glitter, glass and sparkle!

This Chandelier hangs over my table for the party and will be the main centerpiece.

All lit up and ready for a party

The Lisa Frost (@demdaco)puffy heart was the inspiration for my color story, and I will show you next how it was used in my doorway wreath……..

The piano top was chosen to display the Valentine decorations.

Happy Valentines Day! It’s one of my favorite holidays to decorate and celebrate. Maybe it’s because my birthday is February 12, and my husband has to double up on gifts, or the main color is red and it is my favorite! No matter what the reason a house decorated is a happy home. I love to use the top of our piano because everyone coming in my front door can see it. (hint, pick a spot to change out seasonally that is very visible and the whole house appears decorated, great for busy families)

Show Me a Mantel Many Merry Ways…….

A mantel and fireplace are a great focal point to a family, living or game room. Garlands have long been the go to decorating choice for many decorators. Most green christmas garlands come in 9′ lengths and are a wonderful base to build on, prelit or unlit. Faux garland is great because it will not dry out and lose its needles, however before your family events or parties, tuck in some fresh greens for smell and freshness. Adding novelty garlands (usually 6′), florals, balls, and ribbon can add that special touch to your holiday decorating.

learn how to tie a bow www.bowapp.showmedecorating.com

When choosing a base garland look for Quality, (this garland can be used over and over), a strong base wire, bristle feel to greenery(a little stiffness signifies a heavier ply of vinyl and will have resilience to fluff out year to year) and strong wire in greenery tips.  You get what you pay for!

Quality garland ready to decorate

Probably the most asked question is how to hang or secure. Here are a few tips and tricks! There is no magic! It takes screws, hooks or nails. (Always check to see how your fireplace heats as to not damage or cause a fire hazard to your decorations!)

Wooden mantel: screw in tea-cup hooks at the back to attach wire to secure garlands, use a small nail with a head on it and hammer in molding to hold. If the mantel is painted paint screws or nails to match and leave in (no one will see!)

Rock, Stone or Marble (even thick wooden): use a c-clamp place garland and secure with clamp allowing greenery to work around to cover. you could even spray paint the color of your garland or mantel to camouflage!

c-clamps

The C-clamp holds garland secure

and the stockings were hung...

Pops of black and white, with red add a cheery note!

No matter your style, taste or budget the mantel is a fun place to show off your holiday decorating talents……

Stockings can be hung with decorative stocking holders (heavy weighted ones are best), the garland itself, tea-cup hooks,@commandbrand, and how Santa chooses to fill will depend on whether you have you been Naughty or Nice!
